How would it be to see the world around you as full—despite the illusion of the mind it might be otherwise? When you look around you, you are inundated with sights! It does not matter if before you are Machu Picchu or the walls of a bland room.
Swirl your head around, watch how dynamic the room has become as new objects emerge before you. Did you notice the sharp contrast in the shapes, colors, textures, lighting, and shading? Now really notice all of this with all of your might! Even the subtlest differences are interesting.
Are you in your room? Well, you might as well be enjoying your experience right now much more than some travelers at Machu Picchu with frustrations on their minds, eager for the next new sights they have to see and unable to enjoy the current ones, busy with only taking photos rather than the gifts of their eyes. You may be in your room, but you are having a blast!
This is what it means to make your world full: it is to know it is already full of wondrous things. The proof of this is before your very eyes, right under your nose the whole time. I do not discount what travel can give to you in enriching your experiences, but any traveling you do simply adds wondrous experiences to the interesting sights you have already when you go about your day to day.
It is wonderful to your personal growth to enrich yourself with seeing something new, like in travel, of course. However, sometimes our minds can trick us by making us perceive ourselves as empty vessels to fill, satisfied only when everything is checked off a list of things that must be experienced in life “in order for us to be happy.”
Unlike an empty vessel, you are like a fountain, which keeps regenerating its own water. It has all the water it needs already, yet water always seem to appear out of nowhere, lush and ever-flowing—as if it has eternity within it. Like a fountain, there is eternity inside of you at every moment.
You don’t move onto new experiences in life to become full, you move onto them because you are full already! You are fullness expressing itself in day-to-day activities, rather than emptiness waiting to be filled by activities.
Whether the activities are travel experiences or simply sitting still and looking around you, they are like the brushstrokes of the artist: expressions and manifestations of an already wealthy, abundant, and beautiful mind. The mind of the artist is already inside of you, if you know how to see the world around you as full.
